Less Watering
Extended watering intervals are achieved along with routine equalization of the electrolyte being drastically reduced due to the fact that very little electrolyte ever passes through the moisture return medium and hydrophobic cindered disc combination
They Stay Drier
The battery and battery cell covers remain much drier with cell to cell and battery to equipment body grounding respectively reduced - this being of the utmost importance relative to today’s use of solid state electronic controllers as used on battery powered electric material handling equipment.
Reduced Acid Mess
The handling of acid laden vent caps is a thing of the past - the built in “anti-splash” device assures that a minimum of electrolyte is propelled into the immediate area when the “flip top” is opened for inspection or watering.
No Explosions
Externally initiated explosions within the battery’s cell(s) are virtually eliminated due to the incorporation of the flame and or spark retardant hydrophobic cindered disc.
No Need to Ever Remove Vent Caps
With already limited access and cramped spaces, there is no need to ever remove the Water Miser Vent-Caps. Easily inspect or water your batteries, just flip open the vent cap and when finished, flip closed.
Batteries Last Longer
Any residual gases that escape through the moisture retention medium during the charging cycle, carry fewer electrolyte laden droplets, assuring that electrolyte gravities are stabilized within the battery cell(s) – Thus resulting in consistency of intended cell voltages and capacity characteristics.
Virtually Fume Free Batteries
The Water Miser Safety Vent affords the operator a greater safety factor as he now works in a more friendly, fume freer environment made possible by the multi-features incorporated in its comprehensive and practical design.
Easy to Handle
Less potential vulnerability to the problems of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome relative to removal and replacement of twist on vent caps during servicing and the lesser exposure to electrolyte (Sulphuric acid), as fumes and or liquid, is a factor that certainly warrants consideration - the water miser safety vent just might in some degree contribute to the area of liability avoidance.
Ideal for Forklift, Golf Cart, Marine, RV and Floor Scrubber Batteries
The Water Miser Safety Vent can be retro fitted to any U.S. manufactured industrial motive power forklift battery since it's construction embodies the quarter-turn bayonet design. The majority of golf cart and floor scrubber batteries will also accept the quarter turn bayonet design.
Meets OSHA Battery Safety Requirements
All Water Miser Battery caps include an industry standard flame and spark arrestor comprised of a micro-porous polypropylene filter which prevents ignition of hydrogen gas from extrernally initiated sparks or arching.

How do Water Miser Battery Vents work?
Batteries lose water in two separate and distinct ways. First, as current passes through the battery's electrolyte (water + acid), water molecules are broken down into pure Hydrogen and Oxygen through what is know as electrolysis. These gases pass directly through the vent into the surrounding environment. The second way batteries lose water occurs when the electrolyte inside the battery evaporates as water vapor due to heat generated by the battery and the ambient temperature surrounding the battery. The entire water molecule H2O escapes as a tiny water droplet. Each process accounts for anywhere between 50%-60% depending on other environmental and usage factors. The Water Misers capture the escaping water vapor inside the vent before it enters the atmosphere outside the battery. A proprietary moisture retention medium along with advanced channeling and filter barrier technology condense the water vapor inside the vent cap and redirect it back into the battery.
What is the Life Expectancy of the Water Miser?
Typically, the Water Miser Vent should outlast your batteries. We have reports of Water Misers in the field going on 14 years. Life expectancy is directly related to the usage scenario. Most Water Misers used in home installations should last for 10+ years. Those used in industrial environments, for example on forklifts, do take more abuse over time and life expectancy may be reduced. There is nothing inside the Water Miser that will degrade or be used up over time so again, life expectancy is based more on the physical treatment of the vent itself.
How to keep the Water Misers Working at Top Efficiency...
While the Water Miser is designed to be maintenance free for the life of the products, cleaning the caps every few years helps keep the water saving efficiency at its peak. To clean the Water Miser Battery Vent, remove them from the battery. If you have multiple batteries or a large battery bank, this is best done in stages. Cover the exposed cell openings with something that will prevent anything from dropping into the open cell. With the flip top portion open, soak the vents in a solution of baking soda and water. The ratio of water to baking soda is approximately 10 parts water to 1 part baking soda or 1 tablespoon for every cup of water. Let the vents sit overnight in the solution. The following day, thoroughly rinse the vents in clean tap water. At some point during this phase, snap the flip top closed. Place the vent under a faucet and force water through the bottom of the cap so that water dribbles out of the 4 vent holes in the green portion of the flip top. The water will not necessarily stream out of the holes but, a good steady drip indicates that the filter inside the cap is clear and free of obstructions. Next, let the vent dry completely. When dry, shake the Water Miser. If you hear the condensation beads rattle on the inside of the vent, the cleaning process is complete and the vents can be returned to your battery. If you do not hear the beads moving inside the vent repeat the above process.
Basic Cleaning Steps:
Remove Water Misers from the battery by 1/4 quarter turning in a counter clockwise direction.
Cover any open vent holes with some type of barrier to prevent any foreign objects from falling into the battery cell
Soak vent caps overnight in a solution of 10 parts water to 1 part baking soda
Remove vent caps from the solution and click or snap the flip top securely closed.
Hold Water Miser vent under a pressurized water source such as a kitchen sink or garden hose.
Force enough water through the bottom of the cap so that water dribbles freely out all 4 small vent holes in green portion of the flip top cap for 30 seconds.
Let vent caps dry completely.
Shake the Water Miser and listen for the internal condensation beads to rattle. If you do not hear any movement, repeat process above.
Reinstall Water Misers by quarter turning in a clockwise direction.
Please remember that all wet lead acid batteries contain a dilute solution of sulphuric acid which and burn skin and clothing upon contact. Be sure to wear rubber gloves and eye protection prior to any battery or vent cap maintenance routine.
How will I know when to clean the Water Misers?
After a few years in service, you may notice the need to water your batteries a little more frequently than you did when the Water Misers were first installed. If this is the case, its probably time for a cleaning.
Another situation where your Water Misers might need cleaning is if you start to see moisture build up on the covers of your batteries where there was none in the past. Another sign you vents may need a cleaning.
What is a Bayonet Vent Cap?
The bayonet 1/4 turn vent has been the industry standard in the US and in many other countries for over half a century. Bayonet vents are characterized by two tabs on the underside of the vent that with a quarter turn in the clockwise position, lock into two opposing tabs on the inside of the battery cell opening. To remove a bayonet battery vent, simply 1/4 turn the vent in the counter clockwise direction. The bayonet style vent in conjunction with the rubber washer that comes standard on all Flow Systems vent caps create the best vent to battery seal available.
What Battery Brands will the Water Miser fit?
